The world’s first purpose-built commercial vertiport, VDX, has been certified by the General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and Skyports Infrastructure (Skyports) to operate electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) aircraft.

The facility is the first purpose-built commercial vertiport in the world to acquire regulatory certification, officially registered as VDX under the GCAA certification process, opening the door for the eventual launch of commercial air taxi services in Dubai.

Three more vertiports are presently being developed, and VDX will be the first and main hub of Dubai’s proposed Air Taxi network. Skyports is working with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) to create the network and vertiports.

The accreditation came after a thorough GCAA evaluation that covered the vertiport’s physical attributes, operational protocols, safety management plans, emergency readiness, infrastructure, and regulatory conformity with relevant regulations.

The UAE’s standing as a world leader in aviation, innovation, and advanced air mobility is strengthened by this historic accomplishment. It demonstrates the nation’s capacity to convert aspirational national goals into infrastructure that is secure, controlled, and prepared for the future.
