According to Iranian state news agency, Tehran has submitted Pakistani mediators its most recent proposal for talks with the United States. A measure that could increase chances of breaking a deadlock in attempts to end the Iran war was reported by IRNA on Friday. Global oil prices, which have increased significantly since Iran began a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, decreased following IRNA’s report, although it provided no specifics. Twenty percent of the world’s gas and oil supplies have been cut off due to the blockade of the crucial maritime corridor, and the US Navy is preventing Iranian crude oil from being exported.

Energy costs have surged as a result, and worries about an impending economic crisis have grown. Whether the Iranian plan had been forwarded to Washington was not immediately apparent. According to the IRNA news agency, Islamabad received the proposal’s text on Thursday night. There has only been one unsuccessful session of direct negotiations between Iranian and US negotiators since the war, which was started by the US and Israel on February 28 with a massive wave of surprise strikes, was put on hold on April 8.

While the United States has imposed a counterblockade on Iranian ports, Iran has continued to retain its tight grip on the Strait of Hormuz, shutting off massive volumes of oil, gas, and fertilizer from the global economy. According to a Wall Street Journal story published on Thursday, US President Donald Trump instructed security personnel to get ready for the blockade, which would persist for several months and drive up oil prices. The ceasefire has persisted despite the inability to negotiate a conclusion to the conflict. Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, the head of the judiciary and a prominent cleric, stated on Friday that “the Islamic Republic has never shied away from negotiations.”” However, Ejei stated in a video posted by the judiciary’s Mizan Online website that “we certainly do not accept imposition,” which is another indication that reaching a solution would be challenging.
