Sharjah’s participation as a Guest of Honour (GOH) at the fifth edition of the Warsaw International Book Fair (WIBF), which takes place from May 28–31, 2026, reflects the emirate’s standing on the international cultural scene, according to officials from the UAE’s academic and cultural institutions, who also noted that it creates a new opportunity for interaction between Arab and Polish cultures. Under the banner of “Two Civilizations,” Sharjah will introduce an integrated cultural and professional program to Warsaw. 36 Emirati authors and poets as well as 21 UAE cultural institutions are included in “One Language of Letters.” The program consists of 35 events, including 18 musical performances that highlight Emirati heritage, four poetry evenings, three children’s workshops, and 28 panel discussions held at the University of Warsaw, the Grochoteka Public Library, and the fairgrounds.
“The UAE believes that when a book crosses borders, it opens a door to shared history and creates a language of understanding that preserves the uniqueness of every culture while revealing its connections with others,” stated Ahmed Bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of the Sharjah Book Authority (SBA). Under the direction of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, a member of the Supreme Council and the ruler of Sharjah, the emirate will introduce Polish readers to Arab and Emirati culture in all of its historical richness and modern life. As Warsaw receives its first Arab Guest of Honor, the emirate celebrates a significant milestone for Arab cultural representation.
