In accordance with a memorandum of understanding (MoU) it assisted in mediating last month, Pakistan declared on Thursday that it would urge the US and Iran to put an end to hostilities and resume negotiations.
Tahir Andrabi, a spokesman for Pakistan’s foreign office, told reporters in Islamabad, “Pakistan will continue to encourage all sides to end violence and resume technical-level talks in accordance with the MoU, even though its implementation is facing challenges. We emphasize the significance of maintaining the safety, security, and freedom of sea navigation while expressing hope for an early normalization of the situation in the Strait of Hormuz,” he concluded.
As they fight over the vital Hormuz shipping channel, the United States has been attacking Iran this week, which has prompted Iranian retaliation on US interests in the Gulf. This caused oil prices to skyrocket globally and raised fears of inflation increases even in countries remote from the conflict. Despite a preliminary agreement in June to put a stop to the conflict, the crucial oil and gas route, which Iran maintains it controls, is at the heart of the renewed combat, which has reached its sixth day.
