On Sunday, August 30, 2026, Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) will open the extension of Emirates Road for travellers from the Emirate of Sharjah up to the Wadi Al Amardi region exit. Two extra lanes will be added over a distance of five kilometres. This is part of the RTA’s attempts to improve the road network and boost its operational effectiveness by offering long-term traffic solutions that facilitate easy travel between the Northern Emirates and the Emirate of Dubai.
The project also reflects the RTA’s strategic vision to develop major axs in the Emirate in accordance with proactive plans based on traffic studies and keeping pace with population and urban growth. This will increase the road network’s efficiency and provide a safe and sustainable transportation system that can meet future growth needs and keep up with the daily increase in travel between the Sharjah and Dubai emirates.
The road’s capacity will increase from 12,000 to 16,000 vehicles per hour with two lanes. Increasing the number of lanes from 6 to 8 and increasing the road capacity from 12,000 to 16,000 vehicles per hour are two of the traffic solutions on Emirates Road that help to improve traffic flow efficiency, increase road capacity, and cut travel times by up to 25% during peak hours. Emirates Road is regarded as one of the most significant strategic traffic axs in the United Arab Emirates because it connects the Emirate of Dubai with the Northern Emirates, handles heavy traffic for trucks and private vehicles, serving 240,000 vehicles every day in both directions, and links the Emirate of Dubai with a number of major roads as well as residential, commercial, and logistical areas.
