The United Arab Emirates reiterated that food security is an essential element of international peace and security, noting that protecting global food supplies requires secure humanitarian corridors, open ports and strong, resilient supply chains.
In a speech at a high-level meeting of the UN Security Council on food security, the UAE decried what it described as Iran’s unlawful actions and restriction of freedom of navigation in and around the Strait of Hormuz. It also condemned threats and attacks by groups linked to Iran, saying such activities risk destabilizing critical trade routes and contributing to vulnerabilities in global food and commodity markets.
The UAE warned against the politicization of supply chains and the exploitation of international maritime corridors as tools of political or economic coercion. It highlighted the necessity of the open and safe flow of goods to avoid disruptions that may aggravate food insecurity, especially in vulnerable nations that depend significantly on imports from abroad.
The UAE urged Iran to fully implement UN Security Council Resolution 2817, and requested the unconditional full reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. It emphasized the necessity of ensuring freedom of travel in conformity with international law, and acknowledged the vital waterway’s significance to global trade, energy supplies and food security.
