Several automobiles involved in reckless driving and traffic disorder throughout the emirate have been impounded by Dubai Police, who have taken strong action against drivers who used the recent downpour as an opportunity for risky antics. The General Department of Traffic’s Director, Brigadier Jumaa Salem bin Suwaidan, stated that patrols saw drivers engaging in drifting, abrupt swerving, and disruptive behavior in several locations, seriously endangering their own lives as well as the safety of others.
He emphasized that such activities become especially riskier in rainy weather, when slick roads and decreased tire grip raise the possibility of losing control and creating catastrophic collisions that could result in major injuries or fatalities. Al Ruwayyah and Lahbab were among the places where violations were noted, leading to the seizure of offending cars and the application of the law. Driving recklessly, stunting, causing disturbances, and making excessive noise with a vehicle were among the offenses. The maximum impound release cost under Decree No. 30 of 2023 is Dhs 50,000.
The Dubai Police will maintain increased traffic patrols throughout the emirate and will take severe measures against any behavior that jeopardizes road safety, Brigadier bin Suwaidan reiterated. He advised motorists to abide by traffic laws, refrain from dangerous behavior, especially in the rain, slow down, keep safe distances, and make sure their cars—especially the tires—are in good working order. Since preserving road safety is still a shared responsibility, the public is also urged to report risky driving using the Police Eye app or by dialing 901.
