According to data issued by the General Administration of Customs (GAC), China’s foreign trade showed strong performance, structural improvements, and resilience in the first two months of 2025 despite external headwinds. The total value of products traded during this time was 6.54 trillion yuan, or around US$912.07 billion, indicating a slight 1.2% decline from the previous year.

According to Lyu Daliang, director of the GAC’s Department of Statistics and Analysis, China’s foreign commerce stayed “generally stable” in January and February. This was because different departments and areas effectively addressed the negative effects of the external environment.

Lyu stated, as cited by Xinhua, “China’s total goods imports and exports grew by 1.7% year-on-year in the first two months of 2025, after excluding the impact of incomparable factors, fully demonstrating the resilience of China’s foreign trade development. According to the figures, imports fell 7.3% to 2.66 trillion yuan, while exports increased 3.4% to 3.88 trillion yuan over the same period last year.

Throughout the first two months, China’s exports exhibited structural improvements. During this time, electrical and mechanical goods exports, which comprised 60% of the entire export value, increased 5.4% to 2.33 trillion yuan.
