The first high-speed, all-electric passenger train between Abu Dhabi and Dubai was unveiled by Etihad Rail on Thursday. It is anticipated that the high-speed train will take 30 minutes to travel between the two emirates. Additionally, a regular passenger train will be introduced.
The 350 kmph high-speed train will travel via six stops, including those on Reem Island, Saadiyat, Yas Island, Zayed International Airport, and the vicinity of Al Maktoum International Airport and the Al Jaddaf neighbourhood of Dubai.
Following the conclusion of tenders, the fast-speed train and the associated infrastructure will be constructed. During the Abu Dhabi media briefing, Mohammed Al Shehhi, chief projects officer at Etihad Rail, stated that there is currently no estimated completion time.
In contrast, the ordinary passenger train will eventually pass via Mezeira’a, along the Liwa Desert and its well-known oasis, and continue all the way across the United Arab Emirates to the border with Oman. Once the GCC Railway is up and running, it will reach the rest of the GCC, including stops in Sharjah and Fujairah.
All of the emirates will be connected by a regular-speed passenger rail. It can carry up to 400 passengers and reach speeds of 200 kmph. It will feature four stations in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, and Fujairah, and it will share the same rail as the freight trains.
