Over the weekend and into Monday, massive missile and drone attacks were exchanged between US and Iranian forces. Tehran hit US installations across the Gulf and claimed to have blocked the Strait of Hormuz once more, which raised oil prices. In reaction to US strikes, Iran’s Revolutionary Guards stated on Monday that they had attacked fuel tanks and munitions stores at Prince Hassan Air Base in Jordan, destroyed radar systems in Oman, and targeted US military facilities in Bahrain and Kuwait.
The US military claimed to have used planes, naval vessels, and drones to attack Iranian air defense systems, coastal radar stations, missile and drone capabilities, and small boats on Sunday. An interim US-Iranian deal inked last month to reopen the strait and terminate the war after another 60 days of negotiations was called into question by the exchanges, which marked an increase in the speed and geographic reach of attacks over the last week. US President Donald Trump mentioned the strikes on Iran over the weekend in a brief phone interview with Reuters on Sunday. “We’re beating them up,” he declared.
