
At the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin 2025, which concluded on March 16, the UAE delegation accomplished a remarkable sporting accomplishment. Four gold, five silver, and seven bronze medals were won by the squad, demonstrating their extraordinary talent and tenacity. Eleven athletes with intellectual and developmental disabilities competed in a variety of winter sports, including skateboarding, short-track speed skating, figure skating, alpine skiing, cross-country skiing, and snow running, as part of the UAE Special Olympics team.
Since Abu Dhabi hosted the 2019 World Summer Games, this remarkable accomplishment represents yet another turning point in the UAE’s athletic accomplishments in the first Winter Games. Additionally, it is the region’s biggest accomplishment in the Middle East and North Africa.
The Head of Mission to Turin 2025 and National Director of Special Olympics UAE, Talal Al Hashemi, expressed his joy at the outstanding accomplishment. According to him, this achievement is the consequence of months of training and preparation combined with a great deal of hard work and dedication. At the first Winter Games since Abu Dhabi hosted the 2019 World Summer Games, this represents yet another significant milestone in the nation’s athletic accomplishments.
