The Indian expat community in the UAE marked India’s 77th Republic Day with great enthusiasm at the Indian Consulate auditorium in Dubai on Monday morning. From early hours, people began arriving at the venue, dressed in traditional attire and carrying the Indian tricolour, reflecting a strong sense of pride and patriotism.
Despite the morning chill and intermittent drizzle, families, senior citizens, and young children gathered well before the scheduled time. The weather did little to dampen spirits, as the atmosphere remained vibrant and emotional, highlighting the community’s deep connection with their homeland.
The Consul General of India in Dubai and the Northern Emirates, Satish Kumar Sivan, unfurled the national flag as the Indian national anthem echoed across the auditorium, creating a moment of shared pride and nostalgia. As he arrived, attendees eagerly recorded the ceremony on their mobile phones, with many sharing the moment live with friends and family back home.
Addressing the gathering, Sivan delivered a brief and impactful speech and read excerpts from the Republic Day message of President Droupadi Murmu. He spoke about the significance of the day and the values enshrined in the Indian Constitution.
“It gives me immense pride and joy to stand before you on this auspicious occasion of India’s 77th Republic Day,” he said. “As we unfurl our Tiranga today, we renew our commitment to justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. These values continue to guide Indians across the world and keep us united. Our Constitution is not just a legal framework, but a living reflection of the aspirations of those who envisioned a free and strong India.
