According to several US and Israeli media reports citing people close to the multinational investigation, the co-pilot of the FlyDubai FZ1073 flight headed for Israel intended to crash the aircraft into Tel Aviv’s Ben-Gurion Airport.

The Omani national identified by some sources as Hamam Al-Hammami was most likely working alone, according to the same reports. Al-Hammami intended to attack captain Smit Machchhar, fly the aircraft toward Ben Gurion Airport using standard approach and landing techniques, and then crash it at the last minute while carrying over 180 people.

The co-pilot had been planning the attack for several months and had previously flown to Israel to gather information, according to Israeli media that cited people familiar with the inquiry. According to other accounts, he had originally intended to crash another aeroplane to Tel Aviv earlier this year but then changed his mind.

As more questions arise regarding the terrifying moments between the co-pilot stabbing the captain and the passengers rushing into the cockpit to subdue the attacker and stabilise the aircraft, Israeli Channel 12 also reported that Israel requested that the UAE broaden its interrogation to include the flight crew.
