The CEO of Microsoft, Satya Nadella, described the company’s plans to contribute $17.5 billion to support the development of India’s artificial intelligence infrastructure as “our largest investment ever in Asia” on Tuesday. This year, several multinational companies have made significant investments in the South Asian country, which is expected to have over 900 million internet users by year-end.

In a post on X, Nadella stated, “Microsoft is committing $17.5 billion, our largest investment ever in Asia, to help build the infrastructure, skills, and sovereign capabilities needed for India’s AI-first future to support the country’s ambitions.

Following his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi, Nadella made the statement on social media, thanking the leader for “an inspiring conversation on India’s AI opportunity. Over the next 10 years, Microsoft and India will work together to establish new standards and accelerate the nation’s transition from digital to AI public infrastructure, according to the statement. The tech giant stated that “building secure, sovereign-ready hyperscale infrastructure to enable AI adoption in India” was a top priority of its investment plan.
