“He expressed his profound gratitude to the United Arab Emirates and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed for providing $5 million to the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, which allowed 640,000 children in Gaza to receive polio vaccinations,” he posted on his X account.
Prior to the polio outbreak that occurred in Gaza on Friday, President Sheikh Mohamed authorised financing for the delivery of a vital immunisation campaign in the region. The UAE has committed $5 million to support the campaign.
Over 640,000 Gazan children under the age of ten will receive two doses of the polio vaccine as part of a two-round campaign coordinated by the World Health Organisation, UNICEF, and UNRWA. The goal of this initiative is to halt the virus’s spread and avert a regional outbreak.
