As violence escalates in the Israeli-controlled region, the Palestinian health ministry said that a 15-year-old Palestinian youth was shot and killed by Israeli soldiers on Monday during a raid in the occupied West Bank. The ministry stated that “the child Amir Ahmad Jawad Jaber, 15 years old, was martyred after being shot in the head and once in the chest by occupation soldiers during their raid in the Umm al-Sharayit neighbourhood in Al-Bireh” close to the West Bank city of Ramallah.
In a statement, the Israeli military said that “a violent riot began, during which rocks were hurled toward IDF soldiers” during a military operation.In response, the soldiers opened fire on a nearby suspect. “A hit was found,” it continued. Grieving family members mourned over the teen’s body as dozens of mourners gathered at the Palestine Medical Complex.The governor of Ramallah and Al-Bireh, Laila Ghannam, told AFP, “We saw a clear-cut execution today in broad daylight.”All organizations who say they support democracy and human rights should be ashamed of this.They don’t see anything about our cause. They enable this occupation to intensify its terror campaign daily, not just in Palestine but in the entire region.”
Violence in the West Bank, which Israel has held since 1967, has increased since the Gaza War began in October 2023. According to an AFP calculation based on statistics from the Palestinian health ministry, Israeli soldiers or settlers have murdered at least 1,085 Palestinians in the West Bank since October 2023, including both militants and civilians. In 2026, 71 persons were slain.
