The possibility of a second round of negotiations was uncertain on Tuesday after US President Donald Trump gave conflicting signals about the future of the US war against Iran, stating that he was not in a rush to end the conflict, and Iran’s chief negotiator stated that Iran would not negotiate in the face of threats.

Iran’s senior negotiator and parliament speaker, Mohammed Bagher Qalibaf, stated in an early Tuesday post on X that the Islamic Republic has been getting ready “to reveal new cards on the battlefield” and that “we do not accept negotiations under the shadow of threats.”

Despite Iran’s insistence that it would not participate until the US leader reduced his expectations, Trump stated that he still anticipates sending his negotiation team, headed by US Vice President JD Vance, to Pakistan’s capital of Islamabad for discussions. It is “highly unlikely,” according to Trump, that he will extend the ceasefire before it expires on Wednesday.

Over 2,290 people have died in Lebanon and at least 3,375 in Iran since the war began. There have also been over a dozen deaths in Gulf Arab states and 23 in Israel. Thirteen US service members have been murdered in the region, and fifteen Israeli troops have been slain in Lebanon.
