The argument over the “proper” application of artificial intelligence (AI) is drawing more attention from both academia and industry as thousands of recent graduates join the workforce in the United Arab Emirates each year.
In an increasingly technologically advanced environment, students and recent graduates are adopting AI to stay relevant because falling behind could happen if they don’t. Many are urging their colleges to adopt the technology rather than reject it. Although typically favourable, responses to the application of AI vary.
Khaled Elkersh, a coastal engineer, regretted not learning more about artificial intelligence in college after graduating. AI was not widely used when he was a student, and not many people knew much about it.
Even though AI was far off from software engineering when he first began working, he saw it was common in his profession. Elkersh was surprised to learn how far AI has come since its inception while he was a student. “These instruments’ capabilities quite took me aback. “Now, tasks that once took hours can be completed in minutes,” he told Khaleej Times.
