To secure a commitment to reform as the Gulf state regains influence in the country, Saudi Arabia’s top diplomat, Prince Faisal Bin Farhan Al Saud, is making his first trip to Beirut in 15 years on Thursday.

Prince Faisal is anticipated to meet with Joseph Aoun, the country’s new president, and Nawaf Salam, its prime minister-designate. Both began their terms this month, ushering in a new era for a nation enmeshed in a financial crisis since 2019 and is currently with a billion-dollar reconstruction cost. Speaking Tuesday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Prince Faisal said Saudi Arabia saw the election of a Lebanese president following a more than two-year void as a huge plus. To increase our engagement, we will need to witness genuine action, genuine transformation, and a dedication to a Lebanon focused on the future rather than the past,” he stated.

This week, I want to travel to Lebanon, and I believe that the kingdom’s strategy will be informed by what we observe and hear there,” he continued. He is anticipated on Thursday, according to Lebanese officials. To aid in the reconstruction of the south following the 2006 Hizbollah-Israel conflict, Saudi Arabia once invested billions of dollars in Lebanon and deposited money in the national bank.
