At a joint Arab League (AL) and Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) conference that will revive calls for a Palestinian state on Monday, Saudi Arabia Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman demanded quick ceasefires in Gaza and Lebanon.
More than a year into the Israel-Hamas conflict and its regional escalation, Arab and Muslim leaders convened in Riyadh in what is perceived as an opportunity to deliver a message to US President-elect Donald Trump.
Crown Prince Mohammed Bin Salman, who opened the conference, called for the international community to “immediately halt the Israeli actions against our brothers in Palestine and Lebanon,” calling Israel’s assault in Gaza “genocide.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia “affirms its support for the brothers in Palestine and Lebanon to overcome the disastrous humanitarian consequences of the ongoing Israeli aggression,” according to him.
A draft resolution for the summit emphasizes the Palestinian people’s “national rights,” “foremost among which is their right to freedom and to an independent, sovereign state. ” Prince Mohammed also emphasized the growing relationship between Saudi Arabia and Iran and urged Israel to refrain from attacking Iran.
Najib Mikati, the prime minister of Lebanon, criticized nations interfering in its domestic affairs and issued a warning that the nation was experiencing a “existential” catastrophe.
