Residents of well-known neighbourhoods in Dubai, such as Karama and Fahidi, are thrilled about the new initiative that will make their areas pedestrian-friendly and car-free. Many are anticipating calmer days and more leisurely walks in the verdant surroundings.

According to Amreen Sheikh, a long-time resident of Karama, the project will literally be a “breath of fresh air” for her neighbourhood because it will enhance walking, lower noise pollution, and improve air quality.

Due to the large number of eateries, our neighbourhood gets very packed on the weekends. Sheikh, who resides in the Pioneer Building, stated that the new project will gradually lessen traffic and improve the quality of life in our neighbourhood.

Because of the heavy traffic and lack of shade, it is challenging to walk in Karama. People will be more inclined to walk outside more frequently and avoid using their cars for short trips if there are more trees, footpaths, and spaces with shade.

Karama will be refurbished as part of Dubai’s recently announced ‘Super Block’ program. The initiative is a component of the emirate’s long-term plan for a more sustainable and greener urban environment, and it also includes the Fahidi, Abu Hail, and Al Quoz Creative Zone.
