According to an official statement, the National Pharmaceutical Pricing Authority (NPPA) has capped trade margins on 137 non-scheduled anti-cancer drugs at 30% of the maximum retail price (MRP), a move that is expected to reduce prices of several cancer medicines by up to 70% while improving patient affordability.
The intervention, carried out by the Department of Pharmaceuticals in the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilisers, is part of the regulator’s Trade Margin Rationalisation (TMR) operation, which aims to reduce excessive margins throughout the distribution chain.
All manufacturers must notify the NPPA of their altered prices within 7 days after the publication of the Gazette notification. The revised prices will take effect on November 9, 2026. Manufacturers will be compelled to post price lists on their websites and broadly distribute them to all merchants and hospitals.
All shops and hospitals will charge decreased costs beginning November 9, 2026, and will display the new prices in their pharmacies. Hospitals will also clearly publish revised pricing on their websites. Consumers can check amended drug costs via the Pharma Sahi Daam app and the NPPA website.
