As hundreds of Indians gathered at the Indian Consulate in Dubai to commemorate the country’s 79th Independence Day, it was a morning filled with color, patriotism, and a sense of community. The air was filled with a mixture of pride in India’s advancements and memories of home as families, kids, and elderly gathered to celebrate while the Indian flag fluttered in the breeze.
Participants gathered in the consulate courtyard before to the flag-hoisting ceremony, which started at 6 a.m. Many arrived wearing attire that reflected the saffron, white, and green hues of the Indian flag. Men donned patriotic-colored kurtas and hats, ladies wore tricolor scarves and bangles, while children waved flags.
Following the raising of the flag to the tune of the national anthem, Consul General Satish Sivan spoke to the assembly, praising India’s advancements and recognizing the diaspora’s contribution to deepening ties with the United Arab Emirates.
Sivan hailed the rulers of all the Emirates and the UAE government for their “kindness in giving the due space for the Indian community to grow.” He commended the 4.36 million Indians living in the United Arab Emirates for their contributions to the nation’s progress. “Indians are valued here for the contributions they have made and will continue to make to the nation-building of the United Arab Emirates, not for their sheer numbers.
