As US authorities evaluated Tehran’s nuclear aspirations and the risk of reprisal against American interests, the Trump administration on Sunday indicated a willingness to resume negotiations with Iran and prevent a protracted conflict in the wake of a surprise strike on three of the nation’s nuclear installations.

President Donald Trump stayed silent on social media after speaking to the country from the White House on Saturday night. He did not schedule any public appearances, letting his national security staff speak for him the following morning.

The synchronised messaging from his secretary of state, top military adviser, vice president, and head of the Pentagon indicated a belief that Iran’s lack of military weapons would eventually bring it back to the negotiating table and that any damage from the assault would be managed. Hegseth said, “This mission was not and has not been about regime change.” According to Caine, the operation’s objective—the destruction of nuclear installations in Fordo, Natanz, and Isfahan—had been accomplished. Although preliminary battle damage assessments show that all three sites sustained extremely severe damage and destruction, final battle damage will take some time,” Caine stated.

In a TV interview, Vance stated that he was “very confident that we’ve substantially delayed their development of a nuclear weapon,” even though he would not share “sensitive intelligence about what we’ve seen on the ground.
