US President Donald Trump stated on Thursday that there is still a “substantial” prospect of negotiations to settle the war and that he would make a decision within the next two weeks over whether to join Israel’s strikes on Iran.
After days of heated debate over whether or not he would command US military action against Tehran, Trump’s decision to put the situation on hold may create room for negotiation.
After what she described as “a lot of speculation” about whether the United States will be “directly involved” in the fight, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt gave out a message from Trump.
Trump has previously set two-week deadlines that were later rescheduled for several other difficult issues, including as the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, but Leavitt disputed he was delaying a decision.
“If there’s a chance for diplomacy the president’s always going to seize it, but he’s prepared to use force as well,” Leavitt claimed. In addition, Leavitt emphasised the urgency by informing reporters that Iran may manufacture a nuclear weapon within a “couple of weeks.”
Everything Iran needs to develop a nuclear bomb is at its disposal. It would take a few weeks to finish producing that weapon, and all they need is a decision from the supreme commander to do it,” she stated.
