With the installation of all 95 foundations off the coast of Suffolk, Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company PJSC-Masdar and ScottishPower Renewables have reached a significant construction milestone at the £4 billion East Anglia THREE offshore wind farm. The monopiles are the biggest to be erected from a jack-up vessel in Europe, weighing 1,200–1,800 tons, standing 67–84 meters tall, and having a diameter of up to 10.6 meters. All 95 transition pieces, which are 20 meters tall, 8 meters in diameter, and more than 400 tons in weight, have been installed.

East Anglia THREE will be fully operational by the end of 2026, providing the UK with 1.4GW of domestic clean power, thanks to the turbine installation that is now underway and the onshore and offshore construction that will continue at a rapid pace over the next few months. “The completion of foundation installation at East Anglia THREE is a significant milestone and a remarkable engineering achievement,” stated Husain Al Meer, Executive Director, Global Offshore Wind and UK at Masdar. It demonstrates the strength of our collaboration with ScottishPower as well as the skill of the project team and contractors, especially Seaway7, who are collaborating to build one of the biggest offshore wind farms in the United Kingdom.

Masdar’s first 50:50 offshore wind joint venture in the UK, East Anglia THREE, is a significant component of our long-term dedication to the UK offshore wind sector. Offshore wind will be crucial to providing inexpensive, domestically produced power at scale as the demand for electricity rises. He continued, “East Anglia THREE will supply 1.4GW of clean energy once it is operational, helping to meet growing demand and strengthen the UK’s energy security.” “East Anglia THREE is our biggest windfarm ever, and the completion of the foundation installation is a true engineering triumph,” stated Charlie Jordan, CEO of ScottishPower Renewables. To get an idea of what we’ve accomplished thus far, just look at the numbers: almost 200,000 tons of steel anchored precisely into a seabed area the size of about 43,000 football fields. It’s astounding.
