Helen McEntee, Minister for Foreign Affairs and Trade, and Minister for Defence of Ireland held talks with Reem Bint Ebrahim Al Hashimy, Minister of State for International Cooperation, and Dr Thani Bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, Minister of Foreign Trade in Abu Dhabi on the occasion of the first tour of the Arab Gulf region by the Irish Minister since assuming office. The two sides discussed areas of mutual interest and ways to further enhance bilateral relations.

During the meeting, the two sides stressed the continuous development of relations between the UAE and Ireland for more than half a century, and exchanged views on ways to enhance collaboration in several industries, including trade and investment, renewable energy, and financial services.

They also underlined the importance of the people-to-people links between the two countries, underlining the fact that there are more than 200 nationalities living in the UAE, including a thriving Irish population of more than 14,000 people.

With Ireland taking over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the second half of 2026, the two sides noted that the Presidency offers an opportunity to deepen relations between the UAE and the European Union in support of common goals of stability, development and prosperity, and stressed the importance of successfully concluding the negotiations on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) between the UAE and the European Union.
