Norway was the Guest of Honor at the 63rd Bologna Children’s Book Fair, which took place from April 13 to 16. The Sharjah Book Authority (SBA) has completed its participation. It increased Sharjah’s interaction with international publishing markets and reiterated its cultural agenda, which placed books at the center of growth, among approximately 1,500 exhibitors from 90 countries. The Sharjah Book Authority’s involvement was centered on bringing Arabic literature to a wider audience, forming alliances with publishers and rights experts, and highlighting Sharjah’s efforts to assist children’s and young adult literature and the publishing industry.

“SBA is committed to expanding the global reach of Arabic literature through a focus on publishing rights, translation, and strategic partnerships, creating new opportunities for Emirati and Arab publishers,” stated Ahmed Bin Rakkad Al Ameri, CEO of SBA, in response to the participation. “This is in line with the vision of His Highness Dr. Sheikh Sultan Bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, ruler of Sharjah and member of the Supreme Council, who has placed books at the center of an all-encompassing cultural project focused on human development.”

“We continue to strengthen our international presence by engaging with global markets and responding to industry shifts with the support and guidance of Sheikha Bodour Bint Sultan Al Qasimi, Chairperson of SBA,” he continued. “Bologna continues to be an important forum for communication with publishers, illustrators, and rights representatives, promoting the expansion of Arabic children’s publishing and its audience.” “Sharjah’s participation in the Bologna Children’s Book Fair in recent years has built strong professional relationships across the sector, bringing together publishers, authors, illustrators, rights agents, and content developers,” stated Mansour Al Hassani, Director of Publishing Services at Sharjah Book Authority.
