RIYADH: On Friday, the skyline of Riyadh and its environs was coated with a thick layer of sand, while sight on city highways was impeded by a blanket of dust brought on by strong winds. In its forecast, the National Centre for Meteorology, or NCM, cautioned that dust, strong winds, and almost no horizontal visibility will afflict the Riyadh region on Friday.

Due to the dust storm’s reduced vision, Saudi Highway Security and the road safety authority advised drivers to drive carefully. To prevent mishaps during the sandstorm, the General Directorate of Civil Defence encouraged locals to stay away from sandy areas on weekends. They also urged prudence and adherence to directives given due to meteorological conditions in some parts of the Kingdom.

Parts of the Jazan, Aseer, Al-Baha, and Makkah regions may have moderate to severe rain and hail, according to the NCM forecast for Friday. Parts of the Madinah, Riyadh, and Najran regions may see light to moderate rain.

Numerous regions of the Kingdom were also expected to see widespread dust storms, as the NCM prediction indicated that dust-stirring winds would blow in some of these places as well as in the Eastern, Qassim, and Tabuk regions.
