Aprominent Iranian news outlet has in recent days published without comment photographs of US bases in the Middle East as tensions remain high between Tehran and Washington despite the chance of direct talks. With meetings between Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and US ambassador Steve Witkoff scheduled this week but not confirmed, Iran’s Fars news agency, viewed as sympathetic to the security forces, has for two days in a row published photographs of US outposts in the region.
Only the day of the week and the date according to the Persian calendar are depicted in the pictures, along with no commentary. On Wednesday, Fars showed the Isa Air Base in US ally Bahrein where US planes are deployed.
As the US increases pressure on Tehran, an Iranian drone that was approaching the USS Abraham Lincoln, an American aircraft carrier that sailed to the Middle East last month, was shot down by a US fighter jet on Tuesday.
