Britain’s Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has secured an agreement allowing UK citizens to travel to China without a visa during his official visit to Beijing, Downing Street confirmed. Under the new arrangement, Britons will be able to stay in China for up to 30 days without a visa. The policy will apply to both tourists and business travellers, bringing the UK in line with around 50 other countries, including France and Germany.

Sir Keir said the move would help British businesses expand their presence in one of the world’s largest economies. He noted that companies have long been seeking simpler access to China and said relaxed short term travel rules would support overseas expansion while helping to drive growth and create jobs in the UK.

During the visit, Sir Keir and Chinese leaders also agreed to work towards a services trade agreement. The aim is to set clearer rules for UK firms operating in China and improve business certainty between the two countries.

The visa free travel deal is expected to support economic growth by opening up new opportunities for trade, tourism and investment. However, it comes at a time of ongoing concerns over China’s activities in the UK.
