NVIDIA founder and CEO Jensen Huang has been named the recipient of the 2026 IEEE Medal of Honour, the highest award given by the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE). The honour comes with a $2 million prize and recognises Huang’s lifetime of visionary leadership and groundbreaking contributions to accelerated computing.

IEEE, the world’s largest technical professional organisation with more than 500,000 members globally, praised Huang for transforming the direction of modern computing. Under his leadership, NVIDIA pioneered the graphics processing unit (GPU) in 1999, a breakthrough that reshaped the technology landscape and enabled major advancements across artificial intelligence, medicine, robotics, autonomous vehicles, manufacturing, and engineering.

Huang’s early belief in accelerated computing laid the foundation for today’s AI-driven technologies and helped position NVIDIA at the centre of the current industrial and AI revolution. The company reached a historic milestone in October 2025, becoming the first firm to surpass a $5 trillion market capitalization.

Commenting on the award, IEEE President Mary Ellen Randall said Huang’s work has expanded the boundaries of technology and inspired innovations whose full impact is yet to be realised. She noted that the organisation is proud to honour achievements that not only define technical excellence but also motivate future generations of engineers and technologists.
