On Thursday, an Air India Express flight with about 160 people made an emergency landing at Kochi, Kerala, after experiencing a technical issue in midair, averting a significant aviation tragedy. The aircraft, AIE 398, was headed for Kozhikode and had taken off from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. While in flight, the pilot discovered problems with the landing gear. The pilot acted quickly, requesting authorization at Cochin International Airport for an emergency landing and urgent diversion.
After receiving the distress call, airport officials promptly initiated full emergency procedures. As a precaution, fire and rescue crews, medical personnel, and security officers were stationed along the runway when the aircraft successfully touched down at approximately 9.07 a.m.
A thorough examination of the aircraft after the landing showed that two of its tires had burst, confirming the severity of the issue and highlighting the flight crew’s prompt decision to divert to Kochi. To ensure passengers were safely guided to the terminal, Cochin International Airports Limited (CIAL) personnel coordinated emergency response and post-landing protocols.
