The Airports Authority of India (AAI) reported that many planes were delayed at one of the busiest airports in the world on Friday due to a technical issue with the airport’s Air Traffic Control system.
Leading airlines IndiGo INGL.NS, Air India, and Spicejet SPJT.BO said that delays and extended wait times resulted from the impact on their flight operations. According to the AAI, the disruption was brought on by a technical problem with the Automatic Message Switching System, which supports Air Traffic Control data.
According to a source familiar with the situation who spoke to Reuters, the problem caused 25 flights to be impacted on Thursday and delayed roughly 70–80 airline departures by more than 30 minutes on Friday morning. Every hour, the airport manages between sixty and seventy aircraft movements.
Numerous planes were delayed, with many departure times for Friday morning in the red, according to data from Flightradar24. The average departure delay, according to the website, was 55 minutes. The website claims that Virgin Atlantic’s flight to London was delayed by more than an hour, and ITA Airways’ trip to Rome was delayed by about two hours. The most impacted flights were those that were supposed to depart between 6 and 8 a.m. (12.30 and 2.30 a.m. GMT).
