A few days after Houthi rebels carried out a drone attack that targeted an Israeli airport, Israel conducted another wave of massive airstrikes in Yemen on Wednesday, killing scores. According to the Houthi-run health ministry, at least 35 individuals were killed and over 130 others were injured in the Israeli attacks. Search teams were still searching the debris. According to the health ministry, the majority of the fatalities occurred in the capital city of Sanaa, where a gasoline station and military headquarters were struck.
Ursula von der Leyen, the president of the European Commission, announced that she will pursue penalties and a partial suspension of trade against Israel due to the conflict in Gaza. The action further deepens Israel’s already historic isolation in the world as it deals with the aftermath of Tuesday’s strike against Hamas leaders in US-ally Qatar.
One of the strikes on Yemen, according to the Houthi-run satellite news outlet Al-Masirah, struck a military headquarters facility in the heart of Sanaa. According to the report, nearby homes were also damaged. In the past, Israel has responded to the Houthis’ missile and drone attacks on Israel with waves of airstrikes. The Iran-backed Houthis claim to be aiding Hamas and the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. On Sunday, they launched a drone that crashed into a southern airport after evading Israel’s many air defences.
