The ten projects that have been selected for the ninth UNESCO–Hamdan Prize for Teacher Development 2025–2026 have been announced by the Hamdan Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Foundation for Medical and Educational Sciences. The three laureates will be announced on October 5, 2026, at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris. His Highness Sheikh Rashid Bin Hamdan Al Maktoum, Supreme President of the Foundation, will be present when the winners are revealed during the worldwide celebration of World Teachers’ Day.
With 169 applications from 64 countries, 129 of which satisfied the eligibility conditions, the ninth edition saw the highest level of participation since the Prize’s founding. Overall participation rose by 66%, and 15 countries took part for the first time. The fact that this year’s award presentation falls on the 60th anniversary of the 1966 ILO/UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Teachers gives it additional significance. In order to examine the state of the teaching profession, the difficulties faced by educators, and the steps required to improve recognition and support for educators, representatives of international organisations, ministers, education experts, teachers, and educational institutions will come together for the World Teachers’ Day global celebration at UNESCO Headquarters.
