In accordance with President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan’s order, the United Arab Emirates, via the UAE Aid Agency, has set aside $10 million to assist global initiatives aimed at stopping the Ebola outbreak in Africa and bolstering healthcare systems in impacted regions.
The announcement was made while the UAE attended an international gathering to address the Ebola outbreak and strategies to bolster the global response, organised by the US on the fringes of the UN General Assembly.
The UAE continues to actively support coordinated international efforts to address emergencies, disasters, and health issues worldwide, according to Dr. Tareq Ahmed Al Ameri, Chairman of the UAE Aid Agency. According to him, the UAE’s humanitarian mission and its worldwide obligation to safeguard people from the dangers of illness and epidemics, in collaboration with governments, international organisations, and pertinent regional institutions, are the sources of this commitment.
Dr. Al Ameri stated that the UAE has supplied more than 150 tonnes of supplies and aid to impacted areas as part of its efforts to help manage the outbreak. These have included food and housing supplies for those impacted, as well as protective gear, supplies, and infection-control products that have helped over 280 medical facilities.
