The UAE is deeply concerned about the violence in Sudan, especially against women, children, and the elderly in Al Jazirah state, which has led to the deaths and injuries of several innocent civilians, according to Sheikh Shakhboot Bin Nahyan Al Nahyan, Minister of State.

He emphasised that the ongoing suffering and displacement of thousands of civilians, the significant risk of starvation, and reports of sexual abuse against women and girls are concerning to the United Arab Emirates.

Sheikh Shakhboot Bin Nahyan urged the warring factions in Sudan to resume talks, honour their pledges made in the Jeddah Declaration, and implement the procedures put forth by the Aligned for Advancing Lifesaving and Peace in Sudan (ALPS) to enable safe, expeditious, and unimpeded access to humanitarian aid. Additionally, he emphasised how important it is that all sides fulfil their responsibilities under international humanitarian law.

Sheikh Shakhboot also underlined how crucial it is to protect civilians in accordance with international humanitarian law and make sure they are not singled out during hostilities.

In this context, Sheikh Shakhboot reiterated the UAE’s steadfast stance in demanding an immediate ceasefire and emphasized its backing for initiatives aimed at reaching a national agreement on the establishment of a civilian-led government that satisfies the development and prosperity goals of the brotherly Sudanese people.
