After learning of Pope Francis’s passing, many followers chose to visit St. Michael’s Church in Sharjah instead of returning home. In order to attend the evening service and the special prayers offered in honour of the late Pope, some people left their offices early. Residents of all countries flocked to the church on Monday night to pay tribute to a man they characterised as a universal symbol of humility, peace, and solidarity. Worshippers took part in Holy Communion, biblical readings, and songs. Following the liturgy, the crowd joined in the prayer for the departed while remaining seated or standing silently.
Maria Fernandez, a Filipina receptionist at a hospital in Sharjah, was one of them. She went to the service with her younger sister. She cited Pope Francis as a source of inspiration for her spiritual development. Her voice was sombre as she continued, “The passing of Pope Francis saddens me.
He represented unification, humility, and peace for people of all religions. I was always motivated to live a nice and compassionate life by his teachings. Although he is no longer among us, millions of others and I will always abide by his lessons and words. Along with his spouse and children, Joseph Kallathil, an Indian educator living in Al Qasimiya, attended the mass. He stated that the teachings of the Pope had a profound influence on his spiritual life.
