The international conference “Climate Change and Natural Disasters in the Euro-Mediterranean Region: Security Impacts and Crisis Management,” which took place in Rome, Italy, from November 19 to 21, 2024, included a delegation from the Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC).

This involvement is a component of the council’s continuous endeavors to enhance its function in tackling global environmental concerns. The NATO Science for Peace and Security Program, in partnership with the Med-Or Foundation and the Jordanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, asked Dr. Abdullah Belhaif Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Consultative Council, to present at the conference.

Dr. Al Nuaimi lectured during the opening session emphasizing the UAE’s involvement in addressing environmental issues. He talked on national initiatives to lessen the effects of climate change, such as advancing sustainability, using technology to manage emergencies, and putting renewable energy projects into action. He emphasized that the UAE’s innovative approach and close collaboration with international organizations make it a model for tackling environmental challenges.

In addition, the conference covered several important topics, such as how to use cutting-edge technologies like satellites and data analysis to manage environmental crises, the value of international cooperation in addressing environmental and security issues in the Mediterranean region, especially earthquakes and climate change, and the security effects of natural disasters on infrastructure and communities. Conversations highlighted the necessity of being proactive.
