The Saudi News Agency (SPA), citing the Royal Diwan, said Tuesday that Sheikh Abdulaziz bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al Al-Sheikh, the Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia and the head of the Council of Senior Scholars, has died. With his demise, the Kingdom and the Islamic world have lost an outstanding academic who made important strides in serving knowledge, Islam, and Muslims,” said the statement.
After Grand Mufti Abdulaziz Bin Baz passed away in 1999, Sheikh Abdulaziz took over as Grand Mufti of Saudi Arabia. He was also the General President of Scholarly Research and Ifta and the Chairman of the Supreme Council of the Muslim World League. Following the Asr prayer at 3:12 p.m. Saudi time, the funeral service will take place in the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in Riyadh.
Additionally, following the Asr prayer, Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz has ordered that an absentee funeral prayer be said for him at the Grand Mosque in Makkah, the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina, and all mosques throughout the Kingdom. The Saudi people, the Islamic world at large, and Sheikh Abdulaziz’s family have all received condolences from King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman.
