If a satirist had first imagined what President Donald Trump would want for his presidential library, the cartoon would undoubtedly have depicted exactly what Trump seems to want: a huge Miami skyscraper built to dwarf all nearby structures, with the all-caps “TRUMP” shimmering in all its LED glory on top. Plans for the interior include two golden statues of the building’s namesake, a massive facsimile of Air Force One, a ballroom similar to the one Trump is trying to convince a court he should be permitted to construct at the White House, and, according to the president himself, probably an opulent hotel. Regarding the franchisee, we have a solid wager.

Just two days after disclosing one created in his likeness (using artificial intelligence), Trump declared he had no interest in libraries or museums, adding to the bizarre spectacle of it all. In addition to the distinctions between Miami and Chicago as cities, the contrast between what Trump has created for Miami and what former President Barack Obama is set to inaugurate at his Presidential Center on the South Side are concise representations of two very different administrations. Nevertheless, both are drawing criticism for their excessive influence on the current waterfront (or waterfrontish) settings, and they both have a noticeable phallic verticality (or insecurity) about them.
