The Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Knowledge Foundation (MBRF) published the Italian version of the encyclopaedia “The Legacy of Muslim Sicily” (L’eredità della Sicilia Musulmana) at the Turin International Book Fair 2026 in Italy.

The encyclopaedic work is a comprehensive reference that documents the Arab-Islamic presence on the island of Sicily during the Middle Ages, illustrating the breadth of its civilizational influence in a variety of subjects.

MBRF is exhibiting both the first and second volumes of the encyclopaedia in Italian at the Fair, following the release of the English edition last year, with the Arabic edition following shortly thereafter. The encyclopaedia, edited by the late scholar Dr. Salma Khadra Jayyusi and prepared over eighteen years with contributions from a distinguished group of researchers and academics from Italy, the Arab world, Europe, and the United States, highlights the characteristics of an integrated civilization that contributed to the development of architecture, science, arts, language, and social systems throughout the island.

Jamal Bin Huwaireb, CEO of MBRF, stated that the publication of the Italian edition of the encyclopedia is a significant milestone that aligns with MBRF’s objectives to raise global awareness of Arab and Islamic civilizational achievements.
