Flight delays and cancellations occurred on Saturday as a result of a cyberattack on a provider of check-in and boarding systems that affected operations at many major European airports, including the busiest airport on the continent, London’s Heathrow. Heathrow Airport warned that a technical problem at Collins Aerospace, which supplies technology to a number of airlines at airports throughout the world, could cause delays for travelers leaving.

They claimed separately that Berlin Airport and Brussels Airport were also impacted. Without identifying the specific airports, Collins Aerospace’s parent company, RTX, stated that it was aware of a “cyber-related disruption” to its software.

In an emailed statement, RTX stated that the problem was being fixed as soon as possible and that the impact was restricted to computerized customer check-in and baggage drop, which may be lessened with manual check-in procedures. It provided no details on the potential perpetrators of the incident.

According to aviation data supplier Cirium, 29 arrivals and departures have been cancelled at Heathrow, Berlin, and Brussels thus far. On Saturday, there were 651 scheduled departures from Heathrow, 228 from Brussels, and 226 from Berlin. According to the airport, ten flights have been canceled thus far, and all outgoing flights have experienced an average delay of one hour.
