Palestinians-fleeing

According to an increasing number of specialists, even those hired by a UN agency, Israel’s offensive in the Gaza Strip is tantamount to genocide, further isolating Israel and putting its reputation at peril, even among allies. Israel, which was founded in part as a post-Holocaust haven for Jews, strongly denies the charge. Others have denied it or stated that a court alone has the authority to decide such.

Nevertheless, in recent months, photographs of malnourished youngsters have surfaced, adding to the humanitarian disaster of a 23-month conflict that has destroyed much of Gaza and killed tens of thousands of Palestinians, igniting international fury over Israel’s wartime actions.

Concern was also raised by a recent offensive on the largest city in the area, which was denounced by several of Israel’s European friends. However, the charge of genocide goes farther, asking whether a state created in the wake of the crime is currently engaging in it.

Israeli officials call the argument disguised antisemitism, claiming that the nation follows international law and calls on civilians in Gaza to leave before significant military operations. They claim that the October 7, 2023, attack by Hamas that started the conflict was a genocidal act in and of itself.
