The United Nations announced today that all its recent attempts to secure access for staff and partners to northern Gaza have been blocked by Israeli authorities, except for one mission that was later canceled by organizers. This obstruction has prevented the delivery of vital humanitarian assistance, including urgent operations such as water trucking.

According to Stéphane Dujarric, spokesperson for the UN Secretary-General, intensified Israeli strikes on Gaza City continue to cause heavy casualties and mass displacement. Over the past week, attacks have damaged tents, homes, and essential infrastructure, further threatening life-saving services such as ambulances, health facilities, nutrition support programs, and community kitchens.

While large numbers of people continue to flee the Israeli offensive, hundreds of thousands remain trapped in Gaza City, many cut off from consistent humanitarian aid. The UN’s Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) warned that civilians urgently require sustained support at scale, which cannot be delivered without reliable safety guarantees and access for aid workers.

The UN Human Rights Office (OHCHR) has also documented ongoing fatalities among civilians seeking food and assistance. Between September 17 and 22 alone, 21 people were reported killed in such attempts. Since late May, at least 2,340 civilians have died in these circumstances, many near militarized supply sites and along aid convoy routes.
