The Sharjah Police General Command’s Head of the Traffic and Patrols Department, Lieutenant Colonel Dr. Marzouq Khalfan Al Naqbi, disclosed that the emirate regularly launches campaigns to confiscate motorcycles that break traffic laws.
In an interview with the “Direct Line” program, he stressed that the campaigns target all motorbikes that violate the laws, especially those that are referred to locally as “bu sheraa,” as well as bicycles and electric motorcycles that are used in locations other than those that are designated for them. He emphasized that these motorcycles are dangerous to both their riders and other road users because they do not adhere to traffic safety regulations.
Al Naqbi clarified that coordination with the Sharjah Roads and Transport Authority is in progress to allocate bike lanes, motivated by the strong interest of Major General Abdullah Mubarak bin Amer, Commander-in-Chief of Sharjah Police. This action will improve traffic safety and foster a sustainable mobility culture in the Emirate of Sharjah. Reducing bicycle-related accidents is the goal, particularly as more and more people from many walks of life are riding bicycles. Additionally, this will plainly control bicycle traffic, which will make it simpler for security officials to keep an eye on legal compliance.
