Indian director Imtiaz Ali has discussed getting back together with Punjabi superstar Diljit Dosanjh as he prepares for the release of his next movie, “Main Vapas Aaunga.” After the streaming biopic “Amar Singh Chamkila,” in which Diljit played the title role of the deceased Punjabi folk artist, this is their second joint venture. Imtiaz Ali discusses separation, the Partition of India, and the suffering that ensued in “Main Vapas Aaunga.” During the movie’s promotion, Imtiaz spoke with IANS and praised Diljit for his depth as an artist.

“Diljit comes with a lot of depth, he comes with a lot of purity, soul, and a lot of society, a certain humanity,” he said to IANS. He feels a strong connection to his heritage. He is such an amazing actor that it is difficult to comprehend how he is able to depict certain people. As an artist, he has maintained a high standard of cleanliness. Furthermore, he doesn’t think of himself as an actor. He claims that he is an actor in that category because he has won every award and is a nominee for the International Emmys. Naturally, his acting is my primary interest, which is why I’d like to collaborate with him.

“I feel that there are so many aspects to Diljit, and we want to bring everything into the work that one does,” he added. It is even more plausible in this movie than it was in the last. He is a part of the essence of this movie because of who he is now, in the present, and what worries him. It contributes to the film’s emotional content. In this movie, he seems to be speaking from the heart. That was undoubtedly a part of his heritage in “Amar Singh Chamkila.” However, since it is also about the present, what he is saying now is more relevant and modern, he said. Mohit Choudhary and Shibasish Sarkar of Window Seat Films and Sameer Nair and Deepak Segal of Applause Entertainment are the producers. “Main Vapas Aaunga” is set to release in cinemas on June 12, 2026.
