The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) is hosting the International Conference on Effective Nuclear and Radiation Regulatory Systems in Vienna, Austria, from April 27–30, 2026. The Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation (FANR), under the direction of its Director-General, Christer Viktorsson, is attending. With an emphasis on competency, adaptability, and international cooperation in tackling new challenges, the conference brings together worldwide regulators and professionals to develop nuclear and radiation regulatory systems.

These included enhancing national capacity through organized workforce development and international engagement, bolstered by programs like the Emirates Nuclear and Radiation Academy (ENRA). Additionally, FANR demonstrated a sophisticated and flexible regulatory framework that may use risk-aware, flexible methods to handle new technologies and changing nuclear security issues.
The Authority also showed advancements in improving regulatory efficacy through innovation and digital transformation, including initiatives like the Intelligent Operational Nuclear Safety System (IONS) to bolster resilience and contemporary tools to improve oversight and decision-making. Alongside these initiatives, there has been an increase in international leadership and cooperation, which has shaped the international agenda across the pillars of competence, agility, and connectedness and contributed to global regulatory discourse.
