As US President Donald Trump’s ultimatum to reach a deal drew nearer, Iran rejected a 45-day ceasefire proposal and declared its desire for a permanent end to the war, expanding the threat of strikes against the Islamic Republic to include all power plants and infrastructure.

Trump reiterated his warning to destroy Iranian infrastructure if Tehran fails to reopen the Strait of Hormuz by Tuesday at 8 p.m. EST, saying Monday he is “not at all” worried about committing potential war crimes. According to his spokesperson on Monday, UN Secretary-General António Guterres cautioned the United States that hitting civilian infrastructure is prohibited by international law.

Iran retaliated with missile fire against Israel and its Gulf Arab neighbors as Israel launched a fresh round of attacks on Iran early on Tuesday. Since the start of the conflict, over 1,900 people have died in Iran, but the government has not updated the death toll for days. Over 1,400 people have died and over a million have been displaced in Lebanon. There, eleven Israeli troops have lost their lives.
